The Money Bill Message

Hold up the money bill and ask, “What is this?”

Now ask, “Can you buy something like a drink or potato chips with it at the store?”

Ask the audience, “Why is it possible to buy something with this bill?” When they respond, repeat their answer: “Because this bill, this piece of paper, has value! The creator of this bill created it with value!”

Key Points (4, 5 & 6 - Be dramatic):

Crease or mistreat the bill slightly. Then ask, “Even though I treated this bill badly, does it still have value?” After the audience responds, repeat: “Even though I mistreated this bill, it still has value!”

Demonstratively step on the bill a 2-3 times. Ask, “Has the bill lost its value because I stepped on it?” After the audience responds, repeat: “Even though I stepped on this bill, it hasn't lost its value!”

This is crucial: Bring a the biggest garbage bin you can find from the side of the stage. Pause. Visibly and dramatically throw the bill into the garbage bin. Typically, the audience will react strongly. Retrieve the bill, hold it up, and ask, “After treating this bill like trash, has it lost its value?” Wait for the response. When the audience answers “No,” reinforce their answer: “No! This bill hasn’t lost its value even though I treated it as trash!”

What you say next makes or breaks the Bill Message, which directly affects the Altar Call.

Personal application of The Bill Message - Dealing with soul pain (Verbal abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, etc.)

“After all the terrible things I’ve done to this bill

creasing it

stepping on it

and treating it as garbage,

The bill hasn’t lost its value”.

“So, here is my question for you” (Look across the audience, directly in the faces of students and slowly and emphatically say the following in the order it is written)

“Why do you think when people mistreat you,

or say hurtful things to you,

that you are less valuable

or not valuable at all?

(Pause)

Why let the opinions of others define your worth?”

Ministering encouragement:

“Please listen very carefully to me:

You are valuable!

You are important!

You are special!”

Final Analogy (Sets up Gospel Message):

“Now, even though this bill is valuable, it is dirty and needs to be washed.”

Wash Bill With Water

Use a bottle of water to wash bill in front of audience. This sets up the Gospel message.

Transition to Gospel Message:

“Just like this bill needed to be washed, God who created you, provided a way for you to be washed from your sin, guilt, and pain by accepting Jesus as your Savior.”

Altar Call:

“If you want to be washed clean, just like the bill, then please raise your hand very high.”

Prayer (Audience Repeat):

“Dear God, wash me from my sin, shame, and guilt. Please, heal my heart and set me free. I receive the free gift of eternal life, in Jesus name, Amen”.
